JUNE WEST (CDG)
AUDITON TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP
MANCHESTER - 2012 DATE TBC
LONDON - 2012 DATE TBC
ActUpNorth will be running an exciting casting workshop for actors based in the North/ South. The workshop will be run by Peter Hunt - Acting Coach and June West - Casting Director. Having had a marvellous career at ITV June is now working freelance on a number of new and exciting projects for 2012. With over 30 years experience she has worked on many prestigious award-winning dramas, comedy series, drama-documentaries and, of course, the longest running soap in history, ‘Coronation Street’.
Too numerous to name all the programmes that June has cast over the years but here is just a little snippet to whet your appetite...’The Road to Coronation Street (ITV), Boy Meets Girl (ITV), ‘Clash of the Santas’ (ITV), ‘Mobile’ (ITV), ‘The Royal Family’ (BBC), ‘Cold Blood’ (ITV), BAFTA Award Winning ‘The Street’ (BBC) for Jimmy McGovern, ‘Blue Murder’ (ITV), ‘Christmas Lights’ (ITV), Titanic Birth of a Legend (ITV), and ‘The Grand’ (ITV).
June has cast thousands of actors nationwide and has always been keen on finding new and exciting talent and to that end has helped establish the careers of many well known faces.
During the one day workshop you will have the chance to audition with a prepared piece (filmed individually), as well as being given scripts to work with on the day, much as you would in a real casting scenario! You will also have the chance to show your improv skills, understanding what it is that makes you unique as an actor and what you have to sell in an audition room.
Each participant will have a 1-2-1 with June discussing their audition, CV and headshots etc. During this time students will be preparing their other scenes directed by ALRA acting for camera tutor Peter Hunt. Peter is the principal of one of the largest acting workshops outside London, ActUpNorth (www.actupnorth.com). His students have gone on work on various productions but over recent weeks include ‘Emmerdale’ (ITV), ‘Benidorm’ (ITV), ‘Crown’ (TVC), ‘KFC’ (TVC), ‘Come Rain Come Shine’ (ITV). To end the day we will run a Q & A session where you will have the chance to ask all of those questions you have always wanted answering!
If you would like to know more about the workshop or if you wish to reserve your place please e-mail us at workshops@actupnorth.com. Places are limited and are on a first come first served basis.

WORKSHOP FEEDBACK
...'I thoroughly enjoyed Tuesday and got so much out of the workshop. The opportunity to meet you both was fantastic and your advice and words of wisdom were well received!'
Louise Fellows (Actress)
'...thanks for the workshop on Tuesday; the day was at once nerve-wracking yet absolutely brilliant for any actor wishing to increase his/her chances of finding work. It was great to meet you and to see the casting process from a critical angle so rarely seen by an actor. As an actor trying to increase my profile in the industry, I found your insight into the casting process invaluable and feel sure the things I learned on Tuesday will increase my chances of success in this cut-throat industry that I love. The course will positively influence the way I approach all auditions in future, and for that you have my heartfelt thanks...'
Damien Thomas (Actor)
'...Working alongside Peter and June at the casting workshop was a fantastic introduction to Screen Acting. A productive afternoon filled with insightful techniques to use both on and off the screen. As a novice of the craft, I found the workshop highly valuable, as well as tremendously informative from beginning to end. A great starting point for any Screen Actor, as it introduces you to the basic do's and don'ts of camera performance. I would recommend this workshop to any performer considering a career on screen and can only congratulate Peter and June on its success.'
Gracie Tredget (Acting Student at 'The Brit School')
...I took a lot from the workshop, the group was great and bonded well, both of yourselves were lovely, imparting useful knowledge, and were easy to work with. I enjoyed the impro session, the casting bracket aspect was useful, and the tips and tricks for acting on camera in auditions invaluable. The most important thing I took from the workshop was the importance of having your face in a position to be seen by the camera...'
Brett Harris (Actor)
'...great to meet you both and thank you for a very enjoyable and informative day. I appreciated the constructive feedback from you both throughout the day and will take this into account in the coming months. I thought that the format worked well, and it was particularly great to obtain the views of not just yourselves but also from other actors regarding my casting type. I was especially grateful for the chance to prepare and perform the dialogue scenes for the camera and, having made notes during the workshop, will look to hone these audition skills in front of my video camera at home and at subsequent auditions.'
Stephen Newbury (Actor)
'...it was inspirational to be in a room full of other actors and be able to watch their chosen work. As well as see a different side, one that you had pre cast for our duologue pieces. I enjoyed working on a piece of script over a specific time period, much like in the industry. However it was great to be given some direction and then to be able to see ourselves back. You were both very helpful and I felt that I came away with things that I hadn't thought about prior to the day.'
