Private Tuition...

"Hi Peter,
Just thought I'd let you know that I have just been offered at place at Arts Ed in London on their MA Course which was my number one choice. Obviously I'm over the moon and really excited, could you pass on a big big thank you to Erin, Lucy and David for all their support, direction and advice over the last couple of months, I couldn't have done it without them. Also thank you for arranging all of the classes, some fairly last minute, as well as being generally very supportive and helpful. Thanks again and all the best." Michael Shon - 30th Jan 2012

We are expert at tailoring private tutorials to suit the needs and targets of the individual (or small groups). If you’re preparing for a specific audition, working on a monologue in the rehearsal room or preparing for a presentation, then we can work in detail to make you as well prepared and confident as you can be. We teach a huge range of people – from those people who have never acted before to professional actors working regularly in Theatre, Film, TV & Radio.

AUDITIONS - show yourself at your best

Getting an audition in the first place can be difficult enough, so it's surprising how many actors waste their opportunity by turning up to an audition unprepared.

Most actors wouldn't consider rehearsing a play without a director, so why should your audition pieces be any different? Some actors think that it's enough to walk through their pieces quietly in their bedroom or, even worse, work out how they might present them on the train on the way to the audition!

Don't waste valuable time and effort struggling on your own and then wondering why you are not succeeding. If you already have someone you know and trust to help you with your auditions then get them to help you. If you are looking for advice, guidance and direction from an experienced professional tutors then read on....

Audition piece direction

We can give you constructive criticism, advice and guidance with your audition pieces whether it be for TV, Film, Theatre or Radio. We are able to work on either pieces of your choice or help find something suitable from the latest cutting edge plays, to Classical theatre, Shakespeare, Restoration or Modern TV & Film.

Sight-reading

Most actors under-estimate the importance of sight-reading (which should really be called sight-acting, as that's what it is): of being able to look at a piece of script and a few minutes later act out the piece as though it were a performance - with the script in your hand, of course.

Sight-reading is THE most common tool used for auditioning purposes and whether you are asked to deliver prepared audition pieces or not, you will almost always be asked to do some sight-reading - be it an audition for theatre, television, film or a commercial. It's also, of course, massively useful for those early days of rehearsal before you've learnt your lines.

We can assess your current ability and assist you with techniques to improve your sight-reading.After that, it's down to practice - which you can do at home for free!

Advice on the business

We are happy to give advice on audition technique, CV's, photos, agents, casting directors, Equity, Spotlight, where to find jobs and how to get started in the business. We will try to answer any questions that you may have and will always be completely (but sympathetically!) honest.

There are no easy ways into this business and we won't be able to do the work for you. The acting world is hugely competitive but can also be hugely rewarding if you put the work in, are positive in your approach and can take a few knocks.

Ultimately, you have a much better chance of success if you are prepared.

Building on class work/ Screen Technique

Some students who attend the weekly classes choose to continue with their class work on a 1-2-1 basis, developing their work and putting into practice the skills and methods being covered within the classes. This allows for further individual time to work on screen and in front of the camera.

Auditioning for Drama School

Having made the huge decison to apply to Drama School it is vital that you are fully prepared for the audition days that await you. Many students prepare on their own and often make the wrong decisions when it comes to the selection of pieces choosing those from monologue books that the schools have heard time and time again.

We are able to help you at at various stages of the application process and can actually help explain in more detail what each school has to offer, and hopefully help you make a more informed choice as to which schools you wish to submit an application. Attending Drama School will cost a vast amount of money so it is important that you make the right decision!

Many of our tutors teach and have taught at various HE colleges and Drama Schools which allows us a further insight and direction into your preparation and audition process.

Please note private tutorials are limited and will run at various times accross our schools in Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester. Availability and prices will vary so please email info@actupnorth.com
